SAMURAI SLAM 2/29/2020 Registration

There is so much happening in our small corner of the judo world.  In addition to constructing a new dojo run by Sensei Brad Bolen, we are we are getting ready for the next Samurai Slam Judo Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina on February 29th, 2020!

UPlex Soccer Arena
130 Elliana Way, Summerville, SC 29483

We have some exciting updates to the tournament.  This year we will begin offering a cash prize of $100 for 3 open divisions with a minimum of 5 entries.  We will also have a special division for anyone 15 yrs and up who would like a match against Brad Bolen, a 6 time national champion and wealth of knowledge.  All of these new additions are available as primary or secondary divisions.
The tournament packet is attached and the tournament website is up and ready to accept registrations.  Please go to https://americanjudofoundation.org/events/samurai_slam_judo_tournament.php.
As always pre-registration only.  Early registration deadline is February 16th, and final registration deadline is by February 26th.  Weight classes and divisions can be modified up to the February 26th with no penalties.  NO ONSITE REGISTRATION.
As usual we will run juniors, seniors, and veterans divisions on multiple mats.  Kosen (ground only divisions) are back by popular demand. We will also offer kata competition or exhibition graded by national judges and can sign off on requirements for rank testing for most kata in all organizations.
We will also offer local and regional referee practice and certification.  Please let us know ahead of time if you are interested in certifying as a referee.  We are also looking for junior referees (10 and up) who would like to practice their leadership skills on the mat!
Awards include:
Outstanding Junior Competitor (Male and Female), Outstanding Senior Competitor (Male and Female), Best Kata Team, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Junior Team, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Senior Team.

As before, we will have three types of competition, standard Shiai, Kata, and Kosen (ground only with modified Judo rules).  Competitors from age 4 and up are welcome.  We will have 4 mat areas running, 2 for Juniors, and 2 for Seniors.  As always we will finish the Juniors competition with an awards ceremony on the Juniors mats, then Seniors competition will expand to all four mats.

Our last tournament boasted 300 entries, started at 11 am and was done around 5:00 pm.  We anticipate a similar start and finish this time as well.

With your continued support the Samurai Slam has continued to grow and is now a major fundraiser for judo in our region.  Please spread the word and come out to participate.  We always need parent and sibling volunteers and train on site.  If you can help, please let us know!  You can do it!
Please contact us if you have any questions during registration.
Sincerely,

Dr. Lisa Capriotti – Tournament Director – American Judo Foundation
